TTX Upgrade to TTX-GP Spec
& Spring Change
The #2 Reason that this Hornet SP piqued my interest when I first saw it was the Ohlins TTX shock from the factory. As a suspension tuner and the Largest Ohlins Dealer in the World I wanted to see what they had come up with for a bike that needed such a high rate spring as that is not an easy task with the limitations of TTX design. Traditionally any Ohlins product fitted as OEM is usually subpar to an aftermarket Ohlins product and that still holds true in this case. This TTX shock uses a modern valve set, but with older MK II style adjusters so I am going to use current SR 3 adjusters and better valving. I have been working on this for awhile now, but have not finished compiling all the Shock Dyno Data so this page will be updated further and in way more detail in the near future 04/23/26: New 150Nm spring with TTX spring adapters installed along with new valving to test So for no real reason other than I had a little extra time today I decided to document some steps along the way from putting the bike on the lift and removing the shock to servicing the shock and reinstallation. None of it really matters other than the result, but whatever it was kinda fun to go through the motions. EDIT 04/24/26: Well, alright alright alright... Testing so far has been met with excellent results. I still have some fine tuning to work on, but the new valve spec is a massive improvement. The bike is way more stable when moving your body around on the bike and making minor steering inputs. It also no longer feels like a soft tap with a sledge hammer to your butt every single time you hit a small bump in the road and getting drive grip is now expected instead of a guess. I'm loving it for sure. The downside is this bike now feels and responds like a proper sportbike and of course much closer to a racebike than it was ever intended to be. This is exactly what I was trying to do for my needs, but it may not be what everyone else wants from their Hornet. Larger bumps and imperfections in the road surface will beat you up pretty good and since the front (NIX30 Carts) and the rear of my bike are balanced and working together now you get same feel from both ends instantly, but it also immediately regains its composure and is ready for more. On a smooth ribbon of asphalt like a race track this SP is going to be amazing and hurt a lot of feelings as very few people are going to expect a naked bike like this to hook and and carve,
